In today’s fast-paced digital world, video has become one of the most powerful tools in marketing. Whether you’re creating a product video, a brand story or an educational video, the visual elements often get all the attention. But there’s another critical aspect of video production that can make or break the viewer’s experience – sound.
For this blog post, we conducted a short interview with Stjepan Markunovic from Bunar Lift. We wanted to find out how high-quality sound can significantly improve your videos. It can also benefit your marketing.
Stjepan has more than a decade of experience as a sound engineer and musician. In this interview, he explains why clean sound is essential for successful brand communication. He shares practical insights. The right sound quality reinforces emotions. It conveys professionalism. It gets to the heart of a video’s message. Ultimately, this helps your content to be remembered and your brand to be strengthened.
I have spent years honing the craft of sound design and recording as a musician and sound engineer. I can attest to the immense impact that clean, high-quality sound has on the effectiveness of a video. In fact, poor sound quality can ruin even the most visually stunning shots, leaving viewers distant and distracted.
The power of sound in marketing videos
In marketing, sound is far more than just an afterthought. High-quality recordings not only strengthen the viewer’s emotional connection, but also convey professionalism and credibility for your brand. Clean audio ensures that your message is clearly conveyed. It keeps the focus where it belongs – on your content.
Imagine a promotional video. The background music is too loud. The voice recording is distorted. The dialogue is difficult to understand. Such problems quickly frustrate viewers, and they may leave the video before the main points have been conveyed. Clear, crisp audio, on the other hand, guides the audience through the narrative of the video and makes your message more compelling and memorable.
The science behind clean sound
As the famous sound engineer George Massenburg once said: ‘Good sound isn’t just about volume, it’s about clarity and balance. It’s about making sure every element of your audio mix supports the story you want to tell.’ This quote captures the essence of why sound is so important in any production. It’s not just about recording audio, but mastering it in a way that complements and enhances the overall experience. Whether it’s dialogue, sound effects or music, each element must be carefully balanced to create a seamless and immersive experience for the viewer.
My experience as a sound engineer and musician
As a sound engineer and musician, I have travelled from the stages of Europe to my current project Bunar Lift. I was a member of my former band Holographic Human Element. Through this experience I have learnt first hand. High quality sound plays a crucial role in both live performances and recorded media.
As a sound engineer and musician, I have travelled from the stages of Europe to my current project Bunar Lift. I was a member of my former band Holographic Human Element. Through this experience I have learnt first hand. High quality sound plays a crucial role in both live performances and recorded media, and on our European tour with Holographic Human Element I had the opportunity to work with world class sound systems. I was also able to collaborate with other professionals in the industry. This improved my skills in everything from live audio mixing to studio techniques. These experiences taught me the importance of attention to detail. They also taught me the importance of precision in every element of sound. This applies to a subtle vocal harmony as well as a booming bass line. Now, with Bunar Lift, our focus is on creating recordings that not only sound great, but also support the artistic vision behind each piece. The same principles apply when creating marketing videos. The sound needs to support the story and the brand. It must ensure that the message is clear and compelling.
Darko Saracevic, a first-class lead sound technician in the band Holographic Human Element, played an important role in my development as a musician and sound engineer. Darko shaped not only our sound, but also the overall stage presence of the band. All the band members contributed to my progress and I am extremely grateful to have had the chance to have such an experience.
The future of music and sound in marketing videos: AI and more
A look into the future shows that one of the most exciting developments in music production and video production is the rise of AI. Artificial intelligence is already transforming the way we approach sound design, music composition and even voice recording.
AI tools can generate realistic and high-quality audio tracks. They automate some aspects of the sound mix. They also provide real-time feedback on how different audio elements interact. In marketing, AI could play a significant role in personalising the sound experience for viewers. For example, AI-driven platforms could analyse the emotional tone of a video. They then adjust the soundtrack or sound effects to enhance the emotional impact. This could lead to more immersive and engaging content that speaks to viewers on a deeper level.
AI can rationalise some aspects of the creative process. However, the human touch will always remain essential. It’s crucial to creating authentic, immersive audio experiences. I work in both live music and video production. I believe that the future of sound lies in the balance between cutting-edge technology and the artistry of sound design.
Whether you’re producing a marketing video, a music track or any other type of media, high-quality sound recordings are essential. The industry is advancing with AI and other technological advancements. Therefore, it’s more important than ever to make sure the audio in your videos is clear and professional. It also needs to be convincing. At the end of the day, sound isn’t just something we hear – it’s something we feel.
A carefully crafted sound experience has the power to turn a good video into a great one. It leaves a lasting impression on your audience. At the same time, it strengthens your brand.
